"No mere 'mera"

Films: Pegasus Vs. Chimera (2012)

Alias: None

Type: Mystical

Location: Forest

Height/Weight: Ranges from that of an average horse to twice that of an average lion.

Affiliation: Good (Pegasus), Evil (Chimera)

Summary: There are a lot of great stories to serve as the basis for exciting movies. Unfortunately, there then comes the point where the execution has to be as superb as the idea. And in this case, what really do you expect from a film marred by Syfy-grade writing and effects? Nothing but a cheesy time, we suppose.

History: In a land full of formidable creatures, one reigns above them all and strikes the most fear into the hearts of the ancient Greeks. That beast is the cunning and bloodthirsty Chimera, a demonic wildcat summoned by a mad king that no mortal has been able to even hurt. But one person, experienced monster hunter Belleros is willing to give it a try, and the key may lie in no mere human. Rather, the mystical horse Pegasus will be incremental in sending the wretched Chimera back to the Underworld.

Notable Kills: Only in a film like this will you see Pegasus stomp a person to death.

Final Fate: During the final confrontation, Belleros throws his sword at the Chimera, wounding it as Pegasus beats on it. Belleros' companion then shoots the monster in the mouth in the confusion, killing it for real. Pegasus lives to see another day while our heroes go about their lives.

Powers/Abilities: The Chimera has a very resilient hide, and is quite intelligent, able to bypass magical traps. Pegasus has healing properties, can grow wings, and has blood that enchants weapons.

Weakness: The Chimera's one weak spot is his soft mouth, though heavy weapons can penetrate him. Also, both it and Pegasus are susceptible to beatings.

Scariness Factor: 3-We'll give it this much, the Chimera has a feral-looking design. We doubt anyone would last for very long near a nigh-invincible horned lion coming for their throats. But alas, the bad CGI and somewhat cowardly nature of the beast truly sours a lot of the fright. As for Pegasus, aside from being a lousy effect also, he's just a horse on the side of good. Then again, we'll admit seeing him stomp a person until his bones caved in was rather jarring.

Trivia: -In most versions of the original myth, the Chimera is described as having the body of a lion, a goat's head jutting out of its back, and a venomous serpent for a tail. It also breathed fire.

-The original myth involved the Greek warrior Bellerophon riding on Pegasus and killing the Chimera by jamming some lead on a spear into its throat. However, Bellerophon let the victory go to his head, and tried to fly on the winged horse all the way to Mount Olympus. Zeus repaid this arrogance by sending a fly to bite Pegasus and send the warrior crashing into a thorn bush, blinding him and leaving him to live the rest of his life in squalor. As for Pegasus, he served the Gods for a while before being rewarded for his services via being made into a constellation.

"Can you wait until I get my wings?"

When the two got nerfed, did they stop fighting? No.
